Respiratory medicine continues to face dynamic and increasingly complex challenges. Respiratory diseases ranging from infectious conditions such as tuberculosis and pneumonia, to chronic disorders including Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and asthma, as well as malignancies such as lung cancer consistently represent major contributors to the global and national health burden, with substantial morbidity and mortality.
Amid these challenges, the diagnostic and therapeutic landscape in pulmonology has undergone remarkably rapid advancement. Innovations in imaging techniques, biological markers (biomarkers), targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and precision medicine have ushered in a new era of patient management. These developments require healthcare professionals to continuously update their knowledge and skills in order to deliver optimal, evidence-based care.
In this context, the concept of “resilience” in respiratory health has become highly relevant. Resilience encompasses not only the ability of patients to withstand and recover from disease, but also the resilience of healthcare systems and clinicians to confront, adapt to, and effectively manage diverse respiratory challenges. Building such resilience requires a holistic approach, encompassing prevention, early detection, appropriate management, and rehabilitation.
Recognizing this urgency, the Department of Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Airlangga – Dr. Soetomo General Academic Hospital, is committed to playing an active role in the dissemination of up-to-date scientific knowledge. Through the organization of the 2026 Continuing Medical Education (CME) program under the theme “BUILDING RESILIENCE IN RESPIRATORY HEALTH FOR A BETTER LIFE,” we aim to provide a scientific forum to enhance professional competence and contribute to strengthening respiratory health resilience, ultimately improving patients’ quality of life.
